Making a Change

So I have a client here right now. She is sweet, she is friendly, she is beautiful, she is caring of her child, she is smart, but she is lost. She wants a relationship with Christ, but she is not ready to give up everything that she needs to in order to get that. She wants to keep the fun things in her life, but she also wants to have a life filled with the joy of Christ. One of her questions that she wrote down on her form was, "Help, how do I get to a happy place? What do I do? How can my life run smoothly?" We went in and talked and I have never met a client who wants so badly to have a life that is good. Not good like happy all the time, lots of money, and fabulous life, but a good like Christ centered good. She desperately wants peace in her home and in her relationships, and she knows that the only way that will happen is if she has a relationship with Christ, but she also knows that she is not ready to take that first step. She's not ready to give anything up.

Isn't that how we all are in a way? We know what will bring us joy. (not happiness, but joy) We know what it feels like to be in Christ's will, to be living the life that he wants us to, and yet, so often, we chose "life". We choose to live like the rest of the world. What will it take for us to give up our selfishness and truly live like Christ has called us to live?

The Feeling of Pure Joy

For the past few months my life has looked great. I was leading a Bible study with my husband, I was going to church, I was working at a non profit, I was telling people about Jesus. I was saying the right things. But while I was doing all of that, I was not being filled with Christ's Word and His love because I was not accepting it. I wasn't searching for it. I was content with my life and I wasn't choosing to spend real time with Him. I didn't read my Bible and I really wasn't truly praying. I felt empty. I don't even know if I felt empty. I just didn't feel anything. I wasn't sad. I wasn't struggling with anything. I wasn't unhappy. I just wasn't feeling. Because I wasn't feeling, I wasn't thinking about it. So, I guess I didn't even realize that I was missing anything. When I say feeling, it is a feeling I have just in the last two weeks realized I was missing for a while. It is the overwhelming feeling of God's grace and mercy. His love that He abundantly lavishes upon us every single day. And while we don't deserve a speck of that grace, love, or mercy, He gladly gives it. I guess all I'm saying is now that I have been reading His Word and talking to Him on a regular basis, now that I have been seeking Him out for just the last week, I feel this joy that I now realize I was missing for a few months. Our God is so good and it is so easy to forget that when we get caught up in every day stuff. I forgot for a while what it was like to feel that pure joy of knowing God's love and feeling is abundant mercy. If you haven't felt it in a while, I urge you to seek it out. It won't be hard to find. He is waiting there with open arms. He just wants you to come to Him. He'll be there.

Remembering

Memorial Day-a day set aside in most states of the U.S. for observances in memory of dead members of the armed forces of all wars.

What did you do on Memorial Day? I drove home for 9 hours from Memphis, and the entire day, I did not think a second about the brave men and women who fought for our country and have since passed away. The thought didn't really cross my mind. I was more concerned with how much longer it was going to be before we were home. I know a lot of people used that day as a time to go out and lay by the pool and drink. Some just sat at home and watched TV. Some traveled. But how many of us really sat down and said a prayer for the friends and family of those who had passed? How many of us thought about the widows and their children or the fiances who no longer have that chance of marrying their one true love? How many of us sent up a prayer and thanked God for making men and women that are willing to risk their lives for our freedom? .....not me.

Until two days after memorial day, I did not think about any of this. Then I got these pictures in my email from my mom. I just sat there for a while and looked at them. These are pictures of my grandma and my family visiting my grandpa's grave at the national cemetery here in TX. While we, as a family, do not believe that he is still there, it made me realize how important it is to pay tribute to these men and women. He fought in WWII (He bombed Germany and Japan) and The Korean War. He risked his life on numerous accounts so that we could be a free country. He was in the air force for most of his life, ready to protect us and our families.

I know its not Memorial Day anymore, but these pictures reminded me of how important it is to thank God for our freedom and the men and women who helped us get that freedom and are still fighting to keep it.
